Dorothea Whitton

Dorothea attended Wagner College in Staten Island, where she discovered and nurtured her passion for education. She went on to become a dedicated and successful schoolteacher on Long Island, touching the lives of countless students throughout her career.

After retiring from teaching, Dorothea continued her lifelong commitment to helping others. Year after year, she was honored with humanitarian awards from Palisades Hospital in recognition of her compassion, generosity, and unwavering dedication to serving those in need. These honors were a true reflection of Dorothea's character and the profound difference she made in the lives of so many.

In 1969, Dorothea married the love of her life, Albert Whitton Jr. Together, they built a loving family and welcomed their son, Albert C. Whitton III.

Dorothea was a devoted wife, mother, educator, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, generosity, and genuine concern for others. Helping people was never simply something Dorothea was recognized for—it was a way of life.

Dorothea was predeceased by her beloved husband, Albert Whitton Jr.; her cherished son, Albert C. Whitton III; her parents, Bertha and Edwin Waters; and her brother-in-law, Vincent.

She is survived by her brother, Edward Waters, and his wife, Denise; her sister, Adrienne Scotto; her nephews, Michael and James; her niece, Darleen; and many other cherished family members and loved ones.

Dorothea leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, compassion, service, and treasured memories. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially cheering on her beloved New York Yankees, a cherished connection that kept her close to the memory of her beloved son. Whether enjoying a game or one of her favorite treats, she brought warmth and happiness to those around her. Her kindness touched countless lives, and the humanitarian honors she received throughout the years were a fitting testament to the extraordinary person she was.

She will remain forever in the hearts of her family, friends, former students, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.

May she rest peacefully in the arms of those she loved and lost, reunited with Albert Jr. and Albert III, and may she know how deeply she was loved and how dearly she will always be missed.
