Dorothy Johnston

Dorothy Johnston (Mulligan), age 97, of Secaucus, NJ passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2022. Dorothy was born January 27, 1925 to the late George J and Marie E Mulligan. She grew up with her brothers George and William in Union City, NJ. After marrying her soulmate and husband Ernest, they put down roots and built their family in Secaucus, NJ. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother, beloved grandmother and great grandmother and a cherished friend.

She dedicated her life to her family and raising her children as a loving mother. She was an excellent cook and hostess who loved entertaining at holiday dinners and family celebrations. She was selfless and always willing to help those she loved. Dorothy was charismatic and known for her outgoing, vibrant personality. She made friends easily and everyone who knew her loved her. Dorothy was a devout Catholic and a faithful, longtime volunteer with the Immaculate Conception Church, as well as a member of the Rosary Club and the AT&T Pioneers Club of Kearny. She loved to play golf and travel, but being with her family was her true passion.

Dorothy is cherished by her children; Debra Sylvester and her husband Frederick, Diann Johnston and her husband Robert Entwistle and Douglas Johnston and his wife Rosemarie; she is adored by her grandchildren, Lauren Sylvester and her husband Jason Stadnik, Jennifer Lennon and her husband Joseph and Nicole Sparacio; and she is loved by her great grandchildren, Tanner Joseph Lennon, Logan Sylvester Stadnik and Sam Frederick Lennon. Dorothy is predeceased by her husband and the love of her life of 73 years, Ernest J. Johnston.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy will be held Friday, April 1, 2022 at 9:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, Paterson Plank Rd, Secaucus, NJ. All who would like to attend the Mass can meet at the Church. The mass will be followed by a private committal service at Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation will be private.
