

Filomena (Fanny) Altamura, 93, of Union City, NJ passed away on Thursday May 15, 2025. She was born in Jersey City on June 9, 1931, to Domenico and Alessandrina Gasbarro. Fanny grew up with her two older brothers, the late Salvatore and the late John, in Union City.
In the early 1950’s she went to work at David Kahn Inc in North Bergen where she became the Floor Manager. At David Kahn she met Philip Altamura, whom she would later marry on April 23, 1955. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year. Fanny stopped working when she married and settled into life as a homemaker. She raised a son and two daughters. Her children, three grandsons and three granddaughters were the joys of her life. Fanny was an avid cruiser – enjoying many Caribbean & Bahamian vacations. She was also a big fan of the NY Mets and many tennis superstars. The Broadway theatre was another of her favorite past times.
Fanny is survived by her devoted husband, Philip; loving children Philip and his wife Helen; Regina; Angela Abrams and her husband James; adoring grandchildren Philip Joseph and his wife Gillian, Matthew, Sandra, Anne and her husband Anthony; Amanda and her husband Sam, James and the newest light of her life – her great grandson Adam.
Fanny’s Life Celebration will be a visitation on Monday, May 19 from 3 – 7 PM at the Leber Funeral Home, 1245 Paterson Plank Road, Secaucus, NJ. A funeral prayer service will be offered at 5pm.
