Gennaro Onorato

Gennaro A (Gene) Onorato 77, of Union City, beloved husband of Ardith (Bunny) Onorato for 54 years, passed away May 12, 2026 after a brief illness. He is survived by his loving son, Tony (Leigh) and and his cherished grandson, Nick. He is also survived by his two brothers, Anthony Onorato (Melissa) and Chris Onorato ( Carol), five nieces and nephews, six great-nieces and nephews, and best friend, Roy Cannon. Gene was a beloved nephew, cousin, friend and mentor.

Born in New York, New York, Gene was the son of Marianna (Trani) and Anthony Onorato. He worked as a computer programmer for Equitable Life; and was a member of the US Army serving in the Vietnam War. He was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Lawrence Church in Weehawken, and he previously served as a member of St. Augustine Church in Union City for 25 years. He loved spending time with his family, friends and his church community and will be truly missed by many.

Visitation will be held at Leber Funeral Home, 1245 Paterson Plank Road, Secaucus, NJ 07094, US, on May 17, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

A Funeral Mass will take place at St Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, 22 Hackensack Ave, Weehawken Township, NJ 07086, US, on May 18, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am.

A Committal Service will be held at Flower Hill Mausoleum, 5433 John F. Kennedy Blvd, North Bergen, NJ 07047, US, on May 18, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 12:15 pm.
