

Secaucus, NJ- George Joseph Berthel passed into eternal rest on Sunday, September 4, 2016. He was 68. George was born in Jersey City to George J. and Anna (Weinbrecht) Berthel. He was a longtime Secaucus resident. He was a 1967 graduate of Weehawken High School. George served his country proudly in the US. Army, in the Vietnam War as a Cobra crew chief. He named his helicopter “Birdie Num Num”. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. George is predeceased by a brother, William Richard Berthel. Surviving him is his loving wife of 53 years, Joyce Ann Berthel. Nieces and Nephews: Dayna Germanario, Brandi Mulholland, Billie Jo Moore, Brooke Berthel, Samantha Hennig, Brittani Schick, and William Schick., and his two furry cocker spaniels, Drummer Boy and Noelle. He also is survived by 11 Great nieces and nephews. Arrangements are entrusted to Mack Memorial Home, Secaucus, NJ. Memorial contributions are being accepted in George's name to the American Cancer Society. Friends and family are invited Wednesday from 4-8 pm to Mack Memorial Home 1245 Paterson Plank Rd Secaucus,. A Thursday Funeral Home service will be celebrated at 9:30 am followed by interment at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
