James “Jimmy” Lee Gasser, age 71, of Lakewood, NJ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 27, 2025 with family by his side. Born in Jersey City to the late James and Jean Gasser, Jimmy spent most of his life in Secaucus before settling in Lakewood in 2024.
Jimmy dedicated over 30 years of his career to NJ Transit, where he worked as a Vehicle Coordinator. He was known for his reliability, work ethic, and sense of humor — qualities that endeared him to colleagues and friends alike.
He was the beloved husband of 17 years to Kelly (Rush) Gasser, and a proud and loving father to Karin Gettmann, Kristen Gettmann, Kelly Ann Gettmann, and Autumn Santomauro. He was a devoted grandfather to William Bies, Max Santomauro, Ava Bies, Jackie Santomauro, and Ella Bies — each of whom brought him immense joy and pride.
Jimmy was a cherished brother to Carol Gasser, Sue Gasser, Jackie Gasser, Mary Mastro and her husband Steven, Valerie DeFazio and her husband Louie, and Chuck Gasser and his wife Joan. He was also a beloved son-in-law to Claire Rush. He will be missed dearly by his extended family and many friends whose lives he touched with his warmth and kindness.
Jimmy had a heart as big as his laugh — both unmistakable and unforgettable. He was the kind of man who remembered the little things, showed up when it mattered, and could make you laugh when you needed it most. Above all, Jimmy was steady, genuine, and deeply loyal — a rock for those lucky enough to know him. His legacy lives on in the stories we tell, the laughter we share, and the love he gave so freely.
A visitation for James will be held on Friday, August 1st, 2025 from 4PM to 8PM at Mack Memorial Home; 1245 Paterson Plank Road, Secaucus, NJ. A Prayer Service will be offered at 4:30PM. His Cremation will be Private.
