Joan R. Greene

Joan “Joni” Raphaeline Greene (Blazini), beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 90, after a debilitating stroke 2 years ago, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and stories that will remain with those who loved her.

Joni was born on August 17, 1936, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Louise and Anthony Blazini. She grew up in Hoboken and graduated from Demarest High School in 1954. While in high school, Joni was a majorette, a role she loved to reminisce about throughout her life. Those memories of marching and her younger years were among her favorite stories to tell.

From a young age, Joni loved the beach. She spent many summers in Lavallette, New Jersey, with her cousins Millie, Rae, Carmela, and Raffie, along with her younger sister Marianne and younger brother Anthony, creating happy memories that stayed with her throughout her life.

Joni enjoyed hosting Christmas parties and bringing everyone together for what became a special family reunion. She loved ceramics and took great pride in creating unique and wonderful pieces, especially her beloved Christmas trees. She absolutely loved Christmas—decorating, creating, and filling her home with color and holiday spirit.

She sang in the church choir at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for many years, especially during Christmas.

Joni loved being part of the everyday moments that became the memories her family would carry with them forever.

Joni looked forward to visiting her sister and her husband in Florida. These trips became treasured memories filled with time together.

Joni had a personality all her own. She loved shopping at HomeGoods, loved shoes, and could happily spend hours watching QVC. She loved colors, wallpaper, and decorating her home, often surrounding herself with an explosion of color that was unmistakably Joni.

Later in life, Joni worked at the Secaucus Recreation Center as a greeter. She loved seeing people and welcoming them, and many people remembered her for her beautiful smile. It was a smile that could light up a room and was one of the things people loved most about her.

She is survived by her three children, Cheryl and her husband Bobby Lyngholm; Michael and his wife Gena Greene, Kathleen and her husband Keith Scaglione, grandchildren and their families, including Michael Lyngholm, Alyssa and her husband Festim Sinanni, Samantha Greene, Gabby and her husband Kyle Cocozza and Mackenzi Greene, as well as the many grand dogs that she loved. Her sister Marianne and her husband Robert Bentsen of New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Her Brother Anthony Blazini and his wife Maureen, and many nieces and nephews.There will never be another Joni.

She was our mother, our grandmother, and a part of the story of all of us. Mom, you gave us years of memories. We will carry you with us for the rest of our lives. You can finally rest, Mom. You are loved. You will be missed. And you will never be forgotten.

Visitation will be held at Mack Memorial Home, 1245 Paterson Plank Road, Secaucus, NJ on Tuesday, September 8th, from 4 to 8pm. Where a Funeral Home Prayer Services will be offered at 7:15 pm. Her cremation will be private.

In Lieu of flowers the family askes for donations to be made in her honor to the ASPCA.
