Joseph Hovan, 60, a faithful NY Rangers, Giants, Mets, and Springsteen fan, passed away peacefully on August 15th after an extended illness. Joe lived most of his life in North Bergen and was a proud alumnus of North Bergen High School, after which he worked for Schiavone Construction Co. for 30+ years where he worked his way up to the executive position of Director of Equipment and Fabrication. At Schiavone, he worked on some of the largest and most important projects in the NYC metro area, including the DEP water tunnel and the 2nd Avenue subway line for the MTA and East Side Access. In the business, Joe was well-respected for his grit, knack for logistics, and his ability to problem solve. When not working, Joe could be found fishing in the Keys, hosting his friends and family at local games and concerts, or relaxing at his condo in his beloved Islamorada.
In addition to being an amazing friend to many, Joe was the son of Mary Ann Hovan and the late George Hovan, brother of Robert (Nancy) and Chris (Kerri), uncle of Michael (Kiersten), Kate, Ashlyn, and Morgan. Joe also adored his great-niece Corinne Rose and was a cherished nephew and cousin.
Family and friends are invited to join us on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Wednesday, August 20, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Mack Memorial Home, 1245 Paterson Plank Road, Secaucus, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:45 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, Secaucus. His cremation will be private.
