Louis Edward Wieben, of Blakeslee, Pa, a beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2026, at the age of 79, embraced in the arms of his loving wife, Linda. During the last year of his life, as he faced a serious illness, Lou and Linda drew strength from their renewed faith, their love for one another and prayer. He spent his final days in hospice care in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, Lou was raised in Secaucus, a town he loved deeply throughout his life. He was part of the first class to attend Immaculate Conception School from kindergarten through eighth grade and treasured his childhood there, filled with hunting, fishing, exploring and the close friendships that came from growing up in a small town where everyone knew and looked out for one another. With his father a volunteer fireman, Lou even became the Fire Department’s first young mascot.
Lou later attended Oratory Prep in Summit, New Jersey, where he was an altar boy, worked as a stagehand and played football. After high school, he studied mathematics at Western Kentucky University before leaving college to pursue a lifelong dream of becoming a pilot. At just 19, he earned his pilot’s license at Burnside-Ott Aviation Training Center in Florida. One of his proudest early adventures was renting a small Cessna and flying alone into Teterboro Airport in the middle of the night to surprise his parents for Christmas.
Lou’s plans to earn his commercial pilot’s license were interrupted when he was drafted during the Vietnam era. He entered the United States Air Force, where he served from 1967 to 1971. His years in the Air Force remained a source of great pride throughout his life.
But for all the adventures of his younger years, Lou’s greatest priority was always his family.
He met his wife, Linda, in 1976, and they married in 1978. Together they built a life centered on their family and raised their children in Secaucus, returning Lou to the community that had always meant so much to him.
In 1982, Lou had the opportunity to purchase Huber’s Deli in the north end of Secaucus, a place with deep family roots. He poured himself into the business, often working long days because, quite simply, he loved what he was doing. As his children grew, Lou sponsored and coached baseball teams and catered countless town events. The deli became more than a business. It became another way for Lou to care for his community.
Linda was especially proud of the quiet ways he helped people. During snowstorms, Lou would sleep at the store so he could have coffee and breakfast ready for police officers and tow truck drivers, while making sure seniors who could not get out received deliveries. He found work for people who needed extra income, even when he was not looking for help. And when Linda encountered families in need, Lou made sure groceries found their way to their homes. Generosity wasn’t something Lou talked about. It was simply the way he lived.
He also believed deeply in hard work and passed that value on to his children, who grew up helping at the deli from an early age. Through the example he set every day, they learned the importance of discipline, responsibility, family and caring for others.
Lou will be loved and missed forever. He was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Katherine Wieben, and his daughter, Lisa Elaine Wieben. He leaves behind his beloved and devoted wife of 48 years, Linda Christine Papa Wieben; his son, Louis Joseph Wieben, and wife Debra; his daughter, Lynn Marie Wieben Casals, and husband John Paul Casals; Lisa Elaine Wieben’s partner, Luis Martinez; Shelley LaMarre and husband David LaMarre; and Loria Sheppeard and husband Jonathan Sheppeard.
Above all, Lou cherished what he considered among the greatest blessings of his life: his eleven grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Mack Memorial Home, 1245 Paterson Plank Road, Secaucus, NJ on Thursday October 22, 2026, from 4 to 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 1219 Paterson Plank Rd, Secaucus, NJ on Friday October 23, 2026, at 10:45 am. followed by his Burial at Holy Name Cemetery, 823 West Side Ave, Jersey City, NJ.
