Lucy E. Barkala (nee: Kurlanski) passed away peacefully, on Monday February 3, 2025, at Sunrise Assisted Living facility in Paramus, NJ. Born in South Bend, IN, and raised in Jersey City, lived in Secaucus for 43 years. Lucy managed the coffee shop at the Days Inn in North Bergen for 43 years, before retiring in 2014. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband Edward Barkala of 52 years, and daughter-in-law Margaret M. Barkala (Comey), and son-in-law Joseph Calderone. She is survived by her daughter Susan (Calderone); son Edward S. Barkala, and his partner Louise Sallustio; two grandchildren Doreen and Michele Tuzzo, and their father Vincent Tuzzo. Many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday February 6, from 4 – 8 pm. Mack Memorial Home, 1245 Paterson Plank Road, Secaucus, NJ 07094. A mass of Christian burial will be offered on Friday February 7th at 9:30am at Immaculate Conception Church, 1219 Paterson Plank Road, Secaucus, NJ 07094. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital https://www.stjude.org/donate
