Marilyn was raised in Secaucus and attended Weehawken High School. She later attended secretarial school in Manhattan. She married Charles Meyer, also of Secaucus, in 1956, and they had been married for 60 years at the time of her death.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Charles, her son, Charles, and his wife, Marie Leone Meyer, her daughter, Jean, her son Russell and his partner, David Joseph, and three grandchildren, Theresa, Cara, and Francesca. She is also survived by a favorite aunt, Angela Fell.
She was predeceased by her parents Arthur Ward and Rosaria Amico, her brother, Arthur Ward, her aunts and uncles, Joseph Amico, Charles Amico (survived by his wife, Kay), and Mae De Rocco. Her uncle, Paul Amico, long-time mayor of Secaucus, died the same day.
Although Marilyn had been profoundly disabled in recent years because of strokes, her family will always remember her love of books, art (she was a member of the Metropolitan Museum of Art), and cats. They will remember her experiments with weird 1960s casseroles, and her remarkable vocabulary (especially the interesting expressions she would come up with when she didn’t like something). Most of all, the family will remember how loving she was, from when she was young and shining brilliantly to when she struggled with her illness and disability.
