It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael G Stanzione, 73, on January 3, 2025. After a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease he passed comfortably in his home being cared for by his loving wife of 43 years, Patricia Stanzione (Stecky).
Born and raised in Union City, NJ, Michael was the son of Michael and Matilda Stanzione. He grew up alongside his sister, Laura Roefaro, with whom he shared a lifelong bond. Michael's career was shaped by his deep love for food, which led him to attend the prestigious Culinary Institute of America. He went on to work in several renowned restaurants in New York City and New Jersey, where his expertise in cuisine earned him respect and admiration from colleagues and customers alike.
Michael married the love of his life, Patricia and together they built a strong, loving partnership that lasted for over four decades. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Martine Lugo (married to Giovanni Lugo) and Lisette Fleming (married to Ryan Fleming), who were his pride and joy. He was also blessed with seven grandchildren, (Lugo) Christian, Michael, Jayden, Layla, Marcello, and Nina and (Fleming) Elliot.
In addition to his wife, daughters, and grandchildren, Michael is survived by his sister Laura Roefaro, sons John Roefaro (wife Kathy), Jason Roefaro (wife Rose), and George Roefaro (deceased). Also survived by sister-in-law Joyce Linhart (sons William and Ryan), brother-in-law Raymond Stecky (wife Michelle, daughters Olivia and Victoria), and sister-in-law Laurie Evans (husband Vincent). His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him and other extended family members and friends.
As a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Michael's life was marked by a deep passion for family, culinary artistry, and a love for the outdoors. Michael’s legacy will live on in the countless meals he shared with family and friends, the lessons he taught through his life experiences, and the laughter and kindness he spread wherever he went. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a charity of choice in his memory.
A visitation for Michael will be held Tuesday, January 7, from 10:30 to 11:30 AM at St Lawrence RC Church, 22 Hackensack Avenue, Weehawken, NJ 07086, proceeded by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM. Committal service to follow at Flower Hill Cemetery, North Bergen, NJ.
