Born in 1932, Sam lived a life marked by service, dedication, and integrity. Sam was born and raised in Jersey City. Sam resided in Secaucus since 1976 and became a leader and a fixture in the community.
A proud New Jersey native, he enlisted in the New Jersey National Guard in 1949 while still a junior in high school, serving honorably for a decade until 1959.
Sam built a distinguished 40-year career as a railroad employee, specializing as an air brake machinist, technician, and instructor. His leadership extended beyond his craft, serving eight years as president of the International Association of Machinists and as president of the International Association of Machinist union, where he fought tirelessly for workers' rights.
Deeply committed to his community, Sam volunteered for 20 years with the Secaucus chapter of UNICO National, serving three years as President, and one year as district governor, supporting Italian-American heritage and charitable causes. He also gave 15 years of service to the American Red Cross, helping countless individuals in times of need. A passionate advocate for responsible development, he spent five years with Secaucus Opposing High Rises, working to preserve the character and quality of life in his beloved town.
Sam valued education and believed in being a lifelong learner; he encouraged and instilled this strong belief in his daughter and his grandchildren. As usual Sam led by modeling his beliefs. He completed many classes and received many certifications from Rutgers in business- real estate and insurance; as well as various certifications from Hudson County Vocational Technical School. This conviction that education is a priority in one's life has taken root and is one of his many legacies.
Sam is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Rita; his loyal brother Mario and adoring sister Anna; his cherished daughter, Lisa; and his two loving grandchildren, Jennifer and Eric, who brought immense joy to his life. He was predeceased by his older brothers Anthony, Carmine and Joe. His legacy of service, compassion, and commitment to family and community will live on in all who had the honor of knowing him.
