Born in Jersey City on May 18, 1935 to Thomas and Marie Monaco, Tom lived his entire life in Jersey City and the last 61 years in his current home.
Tom wedded the love of his life, Lucy, on May 3, 1959 and they enjoyed a beautiful 62-year marriage up until Lucy’s passing on December 18, 2021. Tom and Lucy welcomed their first child, Mary, in 1961. Mary passed away in 2024.
Survivors include his sister, Judith Monaco Chinery, his children, Tom and his wife, Patty, and Tracey and her husband, Rick, and his six grandchildren, Joe, Alex, Nick, Julia, Matthew, and Spencer.
Tom wore many hats, literally and figuratively, in many roles over the years – milk delivery assistant, minor league baseball player, a 3-month stint in the Coast Guard, mechanical engineer, successful entrepreneur and business owner, model train enthusiast, and voracious reader, but he will be remembered above all as a man who always put his family first. His priorities were the people in his life – his parents, his wife, his children, his grandchildren, and his neighbors. Tom faced his share of adversity, most of that attributed to being a long-time Mets fan.
A visitation for Tom will be held on Thursday, September 25, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Leber Funeral Home, 1245 Paterson Plank Road, Secaucus, NJ. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, September 26, beginning at 10:00 AM at St. Anne’s Church at 3534 Kennedy Blvd, Jersey City, NJ followed by the interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ.
