Alma Lorene Watson, age 98, of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed from this Earth in the arms of the angels to her Heavenly Home on Thursday, May 26, 2022. Alma was born October 29, 1923, in Cement, Oklahoma but spent most of her childhood in Fletcher, Oklahoma with 2 brothers and five sisters.
Alma lived her life by her faith, never faltering in her belief and her purpose. Second Timothy 1:12 was a scripture that Alma claimed continuously - “I’m not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day.” She loved God and shared that love with those around her.
On June 9, 1940, she married R.D. Watson (now deceased) in Harlingen, Texas. They were blessed with three daughters, Olivia, Linda, and Elaine, beginning their family life in Fort Worth, then moving to Shawnee. Meeting the needs of her family was an extension of Alma’s faith. She took great pleasure in cooking delicious meals for her family and keeping an immaculate house. She did this with love and joy. She delighted in cooking a big steak for the men in her family. Her fried apricot pies were another favorite! When you entered her home, Alma always offered hot coffee, good food, and a warm visit.
Alma loved her family! She enjoyed visiting with all of her sisters and recounting fun memories of their childhood, often ending up with all of them talking at once yet understanding each other perfectly. Alma loved spending time with her grandchildren Jeff, Bobby, Tracy, Kim, David, and Danny. She taught them God’s Word and regularly prayed for their salvation. Three of her great-grandchildren are now pursuing careers in the ministry. Sitting in the rocking chair sharing stories and reading to her grandchildren and some of her great-grandchildren while they munched on her cookies caused her face to light up with her sweet smile. Her many nieces and nephews were also near and dear to her heart.
Another love of Alma’s was her church. She attended church regularly wherever her family lived. Her main ministry was teaching the young women’s Bible class for years. She also sewed, made baby blankets, and shared her well-known pound cake with others in times of need, fellowship, and celebrations. Alma lived her life by God’s Word, reading daily and keeping it in her heart. Philippians 4:13 was a favored Bible verse of hers: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Alma touched each of our lives in a profound way. She also blessed those who took such good care of her in her later years with her strength and love for God. She, in turn, was blessed by her caretakers at Regency Skilled Nursing Facility and the Good Shepherd Hospice. Her family would like to express gratitude for the love and care they each provided.
Alma is preceded in death by her husband R.D., two brothers, four sisters, and grandson David. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law; Olivia and Glen Neal of Cushing, Linda Haley (husband Don, deceased) of Nashville, and Elaine and Joe Kieffer of Wanette as well as five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A graveside service for Alma Watson will be held at Resthaven Memorial Park cemetery (44909 Highway 3, Shawnee, Oklahoma, 74801) on Friday, June 3rd at 2:00.
