

He married N. Bernice Painter Smith on Aug. 1, 1938. They shared 76 years together before her passing on Sept. 22, 2014.
Al served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1945.
He opened S&S Auto Salvage in 1949, which is still in operation.
Upon retirement, Al and Bernice enjoyed traveling, dancing and spending time with their family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice; infant son Alvah Lloyd Smith Jr.; parents; two brothers; three sisters and son-in-law, Jim Spurr.
He is survived by daughter Virginia and husband Don Dyer; daughter Aline Smith; son Ted and his wife Rhonda; granddaughter Melanie and her husband Karl and great-grandson Eli Hicks; grandson Jason Dyer and his wife Jessica and great-grandchildren Vin and Izzy Dyer; grandson Paul Smith and great-grandsons Tanner and Grady Smith; grandson Kenneth Smith and wife Allison and great-grandsons Sidney and Sloan Smith, and grandson Tommy Smith; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Service under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 17, at Fairview Cemetery.
