

She grew up in Shawnee and proudly graduated with the class of 1958. She married the love of her life, Orville “Duane” Chancellor on April 3, 1959. They spent almost 33 years of marriage together until his passing. Once married, Betty obtained a bachelor’s degree in education from Oklahoma Baptist University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She went on to further her education receiving her Master’s degree at the University of Central Oklahoma.
Betty taught for 34 years at North Rock Creek School. The majority of her career was spent in first grade. She can easily be credited with teaching hundreds of children to read. Her students still remember going to her house for 100 day cookie parties, having tea parties, and learning The Lord’s Prayer. She was a proud member of the Delta Kappa Gamma organization for teachers. She was also a member for over thirty years at Aydelotte Baptist Church in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
Betty had many hobbies. Among these included reading, genealogy, collecting bird houses and tea pots, and most importantly was the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren. She was known as “Grandma Angel,” to all of her little ones. Betty went all out for Christmas with her baking. She was known for her Christmas candy, breads, and pies. Anita and Delaina said their favorite pie was pumpkin, while Terry’s was coconut cream. She and her family enjoyed vacationing at Lake Tenkiller. Betty had a customized 3 wheeler that she could be seen driving all over the NRC community. Later in life she rode on a motorcycle with her husband, Duane, across the southern half of the US.
She is preceded in death by her husband Duane Chancellor, parents Leon and Marie Shepherd, and 2 sisters, Susan Hopkins, and Mary Caskey, mother and father in law, DT and Marie Chancellor, brother and sister in law, Del and Mary Chancellor, and 2 sisters in law, Joyce Terney, and Shirley Hopkins.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Terry Chancellor, Delaina and Henry Coleman, and Anita and John Morgan; sister, Leona Shepherd; five grandchildren: Jennifer and husband Jessee VanHuss, Travis (TJ) and wife Sydney Morgan, Duane Coleman, Hope and husband Cashen Cline and Wyatt Chancellor; five great-grandchildren: Morgan and Margo VanHuss, Elaina, Bonnie, and Nora Cline; and Waylon Cline who is on the way. She also is loved by a host of nieces, and great nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Betty will be held Thursday, March 28, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home, 44909 Highway 3, Shawnee, OK 74801. A Celebration of Life service will occur Friday, March 29, 2024 at 1:30 PM at the Aydelotte Baptist Church, 10201 N Harrison St, Shawnee, OK 74804. A committal service will occur Friday, March 29, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Resthaven Memorial Park, 16006 S Rock Creek Rd, Shawnee, OK 74801.
