OBITUARY
Bob J. Harris
December 23, 1931 – October 26, 2013
Graveside service for Bob J. Harris, 81, of Oklahoma City, will 11:00 am Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at Resthaven Memorial Park with Henry L. Williams, officiating. Visitation will be 8:30 – 10:30 am on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at Resthaven Funeral Home.
Mr. Harris passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2013 in Oklahoma City.
Bob J. Harris was born on December 23, 1931, in Hugo, Oklahoma to Robert and Lois (Kernell) Harris. He moved to Shawnee at an early age and was a member of the Shawnee High School Class of 1950. He joined the United States Army on December 6, 1949, in Oklahoma City. He was honorably discharged on December 6, 1952, after serving in the Korean Conflict. He earned the Army Occ Medal (Japan), Korean Service Medal w/6 Bronze Service Stars, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation (ROK), and UN Service Medal. He married Lola Lawson on March 23, 1963, in Pampa, Texas. He worked for the American Telephone & Telegraph for over 27 years. He and his wife owned and operated Bob Harris TV & Appliance for thirteen years. Bob was a Midwest City Councilman for two terms, he served on the Traffic & Safety Commission for eight years, and the Citizens Advisory Commission. He ran for Mayor of Midwest City and was elected as the Interim City Manager. He served on the Midwest City Hospital Board and was local president of the CWA Local 6050. He was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church in Midwest City. Bob was an owner and trainer of thoroughbred horses and raced horses at numerous tracks around the country. Bob was a huge Oklahoma Sooners and Oklahoma City Thunder fan. He had a passion for horseracing and an incredible love for his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Lola, of the home; one son: Doug Lawson and his wife, Cindy of Nicoma Park, OK; one daughter: Pamela Blackwell of Midwest City; five grandchildren: Cody Kinnett, Tara Blackwell, Matthew Lawson, Joshua Lawson, and Sierra Lawson; two brothers: JR Harris, of Texoma and Doug Harris and his wife, Lois of Sand Springs, OK; two sisters: Dorothy Hudson of Farmington, NM and Judy Schroeder of Oklahoma City; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the choice of the donor.
