Emma Shelton

Emma Shelton went to see her Lord and Savior on February 27, 2018. She was born to German immigrants, Frank Joseph & Anna Mikish on October 11, 1914, on the family farm in Shawnee, OK. Born and raised in the South Rock Creek area, she attended South Rock Creek School beginning in 1919. During this time, she spent most of her time plowing the fields and spending time with her family. She told stories of the countless trips to town by buggy and horse. She dedicated her life to the Lord at a young age and was the oldest member of Rock Creek Baptist Church. She met the love of her life and best friend, Grestol (G.A.) Shelton at Rock Creek Baptist Church in 1935 at a Sunday School Class party. They were married December 23, 1939 in the home of Buck Mize by the Rev. Fred Fisher. Together they enjoyed 57 years of marriage, GA passed away on Christmas Eve, 1996. Together they made their home and raised their family on their farm in the South Rock Creek area while making a living in the Dairy Business. Emma also spent time working jobs outside of the home to supplement during the leaner years. As the oldest living member of the South Rock Creek area for years, she loved seeing her friends at church. She loved working even into her 80’s. She dedicated her life caring for others. As a caregiver for many, she retired at 89 years of age from the Rock Creek Baptist Preschool. She loved all of her ‘babies’. At 103 years old, she would recount history that no history book could ever tell. She shared many of her memories of simpler days. There are many here to cherish her memories including son and daughter in law, Roy & Barbara Shelton of Shawnee, OK; daughter and son in law, Clayton & Judy Eads of Shawnee, OK. Grandchildren: Tamara “Tami” Annette Slawson, Gregette “Gregie” Clark, Andrea Zachery & Raymond Worth (fiancé), Melanie & Jon Arnett; Melissa & Brian Mahaffey, David & Mary Williams, Steve & Belinda Williams and Debbie Hedrick. Great-grandchildren: Roy Edward Slawson, Cari & Hung Tran, Cori Cotton, Brandon & Lexi Toy, Ryan & Allison Copeland, Abigail and Allyson Mahaffey, Kimrey, Jayce & Emma Kaye Arnett, Amanda Williams, Kevin & Stephany Kurtz, Amy & Jon Davis, Nicki & Lauren Williams and Dakota Hedrick. Great-great-grandchildren: Vernon Douglas “Dougie” Vaughn III, Rylie, Gavin, Hailey, Emma & Kash Tran, Fynix Faith Cotton, Vernon “Buckshot” Vaughn IV, Vanity D., Victor D., Vincent D. & Vayden D. Vaughn and Kyler & Foxx Kurtz, Addison & Kristen Brock, Maxx Davis, Jace Williams, Teagan and Reyvn Toy, Mason and Nixon Copeland. Numerous nieces, nephews and a whole host of extended family and friends that she touched throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Grestol, her sister, Annie Fletcher, her brothers, Frank Mikish, Aldoph Mikish, Ernest Mikish and Infant Baby Boy Mikish. In addition she was greeted in heaven by sister in law, Jackie Curtis; nephew, Richard Mikish; grandson, David Williams, Sr.; and great-grandson, David Williams, Jr.

Biography

Emma Shelton went to see her Lord and Savior on February 27, 2018. She was born to German immigrants, Frank Joseph & Anna Mikish on October 11, 1914, on the family farm in Shawnee, OK. Born and raised in the South Rock Creek area, she attended South Rock Creek School beginning in 1919. During this time, she spent most of her time plowing the fields and spending time with her family. She told stories of the countless trips to town by buggy and horse.
She dedicated her life to the Lord at a young age and was the oldest member of Rock Creek Baptist Church. She met the love of her life and best friend, Grestol (G.A.) Shelton at Rock Creek Baptist Church in 1935 at a Sunday School Class party. They were married December 23, 1939 in the home of Buck Mize by the Rev. Fred Fisher.
