Shawnee resident, Gordon Sovereign, 78, died Tuesday, October 28, 2014. He was born March 11, 1936 in Royal, Nebraska to Cecil and Edith Sovereign. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and proudly wore his USS Maddox hat. He married his soul mate, Sharon Clark, on September 3, 1966. Gordon and Sharon opened and ran Gordon’s Home Center in Shawnee for 16 years. He loved to garden, work any kind of puzzle, watch football and baseball, and cook. Gordon will be remembered most for his passion for life and love for his family. Almost everybody that met Gordon couldn’t help but like him. Most people meeting him for the first time would comment about how funny he was. You could always count on him cheering you up if you were around him. Yet, he will be most remembered for the love of his family. His children near and far were never far from his mind and he was always there for loving advice or support. Spend more than five minutes with Sharon and Gordon and there was no doubt they loved each other today as much as their newlywed days. Gordon was loved and will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Those left to cherish their memories are his wife of 48 years, Sharon Sovereign; children, Steve Sovereign, Renee Sovereign, Eric and Kelly Sovereign, and Marla Sovereign; grandchildren, Christian, Hayden, Ashley, and Mason Sovereign; brother, Cliff and Elaine Sovereign; sisters, Mary and Gilbert Eley, Nona Nelson; several great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held 10am Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Immanuel Baptist Church with Pastor Todd Fisher officiating. Inurnment will follow at 2pm at Ft. Sill National Cemetery.
