K. Bernice Kersey-Gregory, 96, passed away peacefully in her home in Shawnee, OK on November 1, 2018. Katherine was born February 28, 1922 in Hampton, Nebraska. On July 23, 1941, she married James D. Kersey before he went overseas serving as a USAF pilot during WWII. From this union she had five children, daughter Joan Smith and husband Walter (Butch), Shawnee; sons Jim Kersey and wife Nancy, Edmond; John Kersey and wife Deborah, Nichols Hills; daughter Jolene Smith and husband Timothy; and son Joe Kersey. She had 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. After 50 years of marriage and the death of her husband Bernice re-married on March 31, 1995 to Billy Gregory. He brought into their union three children, son Billy Gregory Jr. and wife Danette, Oklahoma City; daughters Sharon Gayler, of Grand Lake; and Dana King and husband Troyce of Shawnee.
Bernice worked for the Oklahoma Employment Agency. After retiring, she was able to become more active in the community and pursue her love of golf, shopping, bridge, and traveling with her husband Billy. She was an avid golfer and was a life time member of the Elks Ladies Golf Association. She and Billy enjoyed many years together traveling throughout the lower United States competing in golf tournaments. She also belonged to several bridge clubs and enjoyed playing cards. She attributed her good health and energy to keeping busy with family and friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 6th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, November 7th at 2:00 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, Shawnee, OK.
