Merlin George Vincent

October 1, 1931July 15, 2019

On Monday, July 15, 2019, Merlin George Vincent of Norman OK passed away at the age of 87. He was born October 1, 1931 in Prague, OK to George and Minnie Vincent. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Bonnie Sue Wilfong; grandchildren: Candy Lynn Cook, April Dawn Kerr, and Kyle Joseph Kerr; and great grandchildren: Bryce Murray and Ted Cook. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Joyce Maxine Vincent; daughter, Linda Kay Vincent-Douglas; parents: George and Minnie Vincent; sister, Dorothy Elizabeth Sherman; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Mary Vincent; and dog “Boomer”. He was employed at Tinker AFB and retired in 1980 as a Computer Programmer Analyst. The team he worked with at Tinker were pioneers in the establishment of the modern day computer. They designed and wrote programs, installed main frames, and hard drives. They used paper punch cards and servers that filled entire rooms. After retirement, Merlin remained friends with several co-workers and they enjoyed their retirement days fishing together. He was a strong patriarch of his family and a good friend to all. He was a person who would lend a helping hand to those in need. He was a good father who always took good care of his children and did the best he could to teach and guide them and was a very loving grandfather to his grandchildren. He always spoke highly about education and encouraged his family to pursue college degrees. He was grateful to live long enough to see all three of his grandchildren receive Masters Degrees. During his free time, he loved to fish, spend time with his family and dog “Rascal”, and talk about OU football with his daughter, Bonnie. Merlin was a strong, proud and good man. He is loved and will be dearly missed by many. A memorial service will be later announced at a date to be determined. Please sign the online guestbook at

What a wonderful and loving friend Merlin was to my parents. Mom said she does not remember a time in her life without him around. I was blessed to take mom to visit him last week. I will treasure the time I had with him. He always had a hug and kind words for me. I will remember praying quietly in his ear before we left. He and dad can hang out until we join them one day. I will miss his smile and mischief.

Merlin was a customer at the bank i work at. He was a special man and always made us smile when he came to see us. This earth lost one hell of a man, and i am deeply saddened to know of his passing.
