Mildred "Mickey" Diaz

Mildred “Mickey” Elizabeth Epperson Diaz, 88, of Shawnee went to be with the Lord and her beloved husband on January 14, 2017. She was born October 7, 1928 in Enid, Oklahoma to William and Virginia Epperson.

Mickey enjoyed reading and cooking. She was a member of the Rainbow Girls and Eastern Star and attended 1st Presbyterian Church. Her proudest accomplishment was graduating from Oklahoma Baptist University at the age of 42, earning a degree in Education. She worked for Shawnee High School for many years as an English teacher.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 67 years, Orlando A. Diaz, Sr.; and brother, Robert David Epperson.

She is survived by children: Susie Malone (Johnie) and Dr. Orlando A. Diaz, Jr. (Jeanie), all of Shawnee; grandchildren: Mark Malone (Angie), Michelle Hamilton (Micah), Taylor, Alex, Christian and Morgan Diaz; great grandchildren: Malachi, Connor and Bryson; sister-in-law, Kathy Epperson; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and her students.

Visitation will be held 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Resthaven Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Resthaven Funeral Home with Phil Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
