Roy Virgil Varner

Burial will be 3:00 pm Friday, Novemer 1, 2103, at Foster Cemetery, Foster, Oklahoma under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Roy Virgil Varner was born February 12, 1922 in Pooleville, OK and passed from this life on October 28th, 2013 in Shawnee, OK after reaching the age of 91 years, 8 months, and 17 days.

Roy was a graduate of Pernell High School, Pernell, OK. Roy married high school sweetheart Mildred Dean Owen on December 1st, 1940. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on August 29th, 1944 and later received an Honorable Discharge. Together, Roy and Mildred were residents of Paris, TX, Long Beach, CA, Hobbs, NM, Seminole, OK, Bristow, OK and Shidler, OK. Roy had a long and accomplished life in the oilfield working for Halliburton, Gulf Oil Co., and Chevron. After the death of his wife Mildred in 1983, Roy retired from Chevron after 40 years of service. Upon his retirement, he moved to Shawnee, OK in 1985.

Roy loved travel and was a member of “Loners On Wheels” camping club where he eventually met and married his second wife Wanda Lou Adams on January 29, 1989. Roy was a member of University Baptist Church of Shawnee, Masonic Lodge and was a 32 degree Mason and belonged to the Good Sam Camping Club.

Roy was preceded in death by his Father George Varner, Wife Mildred, Mother Christina Varner, Daughter Carol Wheeler, Brother Sterling Varner, and Wife Wanda.

He is survived by his two loving sons, Roger Varner and wife Anna of Shawnee, OK, and David Varner and wife Colette of Muldoon, TX; Grandaughters LisaVanOrsdal and husband Paul of Bristow, OK, Kay Perceful and her husband Dave of Austin, TX, Sherri Sands and husband Greg of Kingston, GA, Whitney Aelmore and husband Johnathan of Richmond, TX and Stephanie Ward of Austin, TX; Grandson Paul Varner and his wife Paula of Shawnee, OK and numerous Great Grand Children and Great- Great Grand Children.
