Ruby Westervelt

She was born July 8, 1925 in Blanchard, Oklahoma to Albert Edward and Lena Porter Clanton, moved to Norman in 1939. On July 11, 1942 she married Gene Hays Westervelt. They were married fifty-nine and one half years before his death in 2001.

She was a member of first Baptist Church 25 years, then Immanuel Baptist Church for 43 years, making many church group trips and singing with the Jesus Heirs Choir. She graduated from practical nursing school in 1963 and helped move Old City Hospital to the New Mission Hill Memorial Hospital in March 1963.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons Ronald Gene Westervelt and Kenneth Lee Westervelt; six brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by her son Larry Steven Westervelt of Tecumseh, Oklahoma and daughter-in-law Karen Westervelt; 9 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her very dear friend and caregiver, Alberta Ward.

Visitation will be 8a-8p on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Resthaven Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be Friday, January 22, 2016 at Immanuel Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Wright officiating.

Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

The family requests any memorials be sent to the Immanuel Baptist Church building fund.
