Sheila Sue Skaggs

Sheila Sue Skaggs, lovingly known by many as “Grandma Sheila,” passed away peacefully on September 3, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 73. Born on August 17, 1953, in Danville, Illinois, Sheila spent much of her life making memories and building a family across Illinois, Arizona, and Oklahoma. She was a woman whose greatest treasures were never things, but rather the people she loved and the moments she shared with them. In 1968, Sheila married the love of her life, Jerry Lee Skaggs. Together they shared 58 beautiful years of marriage, growing their family, weathering life’s storms, and creating a lifetime of memories. Their love was the kind that endured through every season of life. Just 100 days after Jerry entered into Heaven, Sheila joined him, and their earthly love story became an eternal one. Sheila spent much of her working life in administrative positions before retiring and becoming a homemaker, where she found great joy in spending time with her family. She loved the simple, beautiful things in life—sitting on her porch swing, watching the branches of the trees sway in the breeze, smelling the sweetness in the air, and hearing birds sing as they come and go. She treasured playing kickball with her grandchildren and gathering the family together for weenie roasts and good times. Sheila had a love for beautiful things, too. She collected snowman figurines and jewelry and took great pride in her manicures. Every week she would spend hours making sure her nails were just right. And then there was her cooking. Sheila was the best cook, and anyone lucky enough to sit at her table knew they were being loved through food. Her famous “Green Stuff” was one of a kind—a recipe and a taste that no one will ever quite be able to recreate because, as her family will tell you, no one could make it like Grandma Sheila. Above all, Sheila was a woman of faith. She was God-fearing and had known the love of Jesus throughout her life. Her faith was woven into who she was, and now her family finds comfort knowing that she is home with her Savior and reunited with the love of her life. Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, Addie Carrie Norris and Kenneth Hendershot; her brother, Kenny Hendershot; her beloved husband, Jerry Lee Skaggs; her father-in-law, Melvin Skaggs; two great-grandchildren whom she met in Heaven; and two nephews. She leaves behind a large family who will carry her love and memory for generations to come: her mother in law: Ruby Skaggs, her son, Jerry Lee Skaggs Jr. and wife Patricia; her daughter, Renea Lynn Arredondo and husband Alex; grandchildren Christina and Ricardo, Alexis and husband Chad, Nicholas, Julian, Isabella and husband Dakota; eight great-grandchildren; six siblings; and countless extended family members, church family, and friends who were blessed to know her. To many, she was Grandma Sheila. To others, she was Mom, sister, wife, aunt, friend, and the woman who always had a place for you at her table. She was a safe place, a source of comfort, a constant source of wisdom & true source of great strength for all. Sheila leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, laughter, love, good food, porch swings, beautiful nails, wild creatures, family gatherings, and countless memories. Her chair may be empty. Her porch swing may be still. Her famous Green Stuff may never taste quite the same. But her love will remain—in every family gathering, every recipe, every story, every bird at the window, every gentle breeze through the trees, and in every heart she touched. And somewhere beyond this life, a husband who waited only 100 days for his wife has finally welcomed her home. Until we meet again, we love you Grandma Sheila.
