Jessie Thelma King Hunter, 85, passed from this life into the presence of her Heavenly Father on February 25, 2017 at home with her daughter Sheila Swinney and son in law Doug Swinney. She was born May 4, 1931 the ninth of twelve children in Alapaha, Georgia to James Washington King and Eva Powers King.
Thelma married William Joseph Hunter in 1950, in Valdosta, Georgia. They had three children, Harry, Billy and Sheila. Thelma was a homemaker and wonderful wife, mother and friend. She loved to garden, sew, fish, dance and listen to country and gospel music. Her family was the joy of her life. She also loved cooking and was famous for her homemade biscuits, potato salad, sweet tea and fried chicken. Her fried chicken was so good that even Colonel Sanders was jealous. She was a very loving and generous Christian soul. She had many friends and never met a stranger. Her family called her memaw.
She is preceded in death by her dad, mom, two brothers, six sisters and many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind son Harry Hunter and wife Joyce of Barwick, GA., son Billy Hunter and wife Brenda of Black Creek, GA., daughter Sheila Swinney and husband Doug of Macomb, OK. , Fourteen grandchildren, thirty three great grandchildren, one brother, two sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be sorely missed but we celebrate her homecoming with Jesus. We know that we are only one heartbeat away from where she is. I’m sure that wherever the Lord built her home in heaven the address will have Valdosta in it.
