

Mrs. Betty Mae Jessee Bowen, age 92, of Louisville, returned to her Heavenly Father on Thursday, September 11, 2025. Mrs. Bowen was born in Muses Mill/ Fleming County, KY on March 21, 1933 to the late Edward Albert Jessee and Vesta Ratliff Jessee. She retired from Brooks Elementary School after 28 years of dedication as a lunchroom bookkeeper. She was a member of the KY Retired Teacher’s Association and the Bullitt County Homemakers. She found joy in tending to her garden, canning her green beans and tomatoes, and cooking meals for her loved ones. A talented seamstress, she spent hours sewing and quilting beautiful pieces. Her other hobbies included reading, traveling, thrifting new treasures, and working puzzles. She was strong, determined, and loved her family dearly.
In addition to her parents, her loving husband of 58 years, Billy J. Bowen preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Jennifer Lynn Bowen Wooley (Mark); son, Jeffrey Albert Bowen (Rita); grandchildren, Keisha Wooley Hall (Dale), Connor Benjamin Wooley (Taylor), A.J. Bowen and Arabella Bowen; great-grandchildren, Brooks Benjamin Hall, Harper Sloane Hall, Sutton Chase Hall, Tate Bowen Hall, Piper Jane Wooley and Brielle Mae Wooley; two son-like nephews, Gregg and John Bowen; several other beloved nieces and nephews; daughter-like friend, Judy Ashbaugh; son-like neighbor, Richard Woosley; her amazing nurse/ friend, Michelle Lingle along with a variety of wonderful caregivers at the Eastern Star Home and a host of other dear family and friends.
Friends and family may pay their respects from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday, September 15, 2025 at Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) Funeral service will be held at 7:00 pm on Monday during visitation hours at the funeral home.
Entombment with her cherished husband will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at Evergreen Cemetery. Attendees, please meet at Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home Tuesday at 1:00 pm to process together to Evergreen.
