Billie “Jean” Royal age 91, of Louisville, Kentucky returned to her Heavenly Father on August 23, 2026. She was born in Lexington, Kentucky on January 20, 1935, to the late Robert Newton Ellison and Georgia Anna Stewart.
Those who knew Jean will remember the time she spent in the garden, feeding the birds, and taking pleasure outdoors through rock hunting and playing in the creek. She found comfort and contentment in these familiar rhythms, and her appreciation for nature was evident in the care she gave to the world just outside her door.
In quieter hours, Jean enjoyed watching the Wheel of Fortune, The Price Is Right, and westerns a simple pleasure that brought relaxation, familiarity, and comfort. She also enjoyed going to Bingo and shopping with her family and friends.
Jean also expressed her love in the most tangible of ways: through baking and the tradition of large family meals. In the warmth of her kitchen and the generosity of her table, she created moments of togetherness that will be remembered with love by all who knew her. Above all, Jean loved her family, and that love remained at the center of her life.
She is survived by her children, Nanci Heap (Bill Hungerford), Rhonda Royal (Mike Walker), Donna Jones (Darryl), Bobby Royal (Michelle), 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; a brother, Barry Napier (Loretta); her best friend, Tina O’Connell along a host of dear family and friends.
