Charles Stephen “Steve/Buck” Mattingly, age 74, of Mt. Washington, Kentucky returned to his Heavenly Father on Thursday, June 25, 2026. He was born on December 27, 1951, in Vine Grove, Kentucky to the late Warren and Gladys (Deckard) Mattingly. Buck was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, retiring after 20 years of faithful service. He enjoyed horses and leather crafting and watching John Wayne and Gene Autrey westerns, one of his favorite movies being “McClintock”. Steve also liked to hunt and gamble. He was dependable and if called for help, he was always there. His true passion, however, was his grandchildren; spending time and making memories with them is what Steve held most dear to his heart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Rita Lewis and Patricia Greenfield and sister-in-law, Joyce Mattingly.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his daughter, Alyna Epley (Brit); sons, Tyrell Mattingly (Alexis) and Derek Mattingly; grandchildren, Jacob Epley, Logan Mattingly, Audrey Adamson, Kahlyn Mattingly, Lochlan Mattingly, Carter Epley, Declan Epley, Zachary Epley, Nicholas Epley and Stephanie Epley; great-grandchildren, Nichole, Kasen and Roman; siblings, Tommy Mattingly (Linda), Bo Mattingly (Betty), Darrell Mattingly and Tonjua Medley (Keith) along with a host of other family and friends.
Funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 12:00 pm in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) with interment in Brookland Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 9:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home.
