Charles Leon Riggs

Mr. Charles “Leon” L. Riggs, age 82, of Louisville, returned to his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, August 30, 2023. Mr. Riggs was born in Loretta, KY on April 13, 1941 to the late Mary Mildred Hagan Riggs and Charles Thurman Riggs. He was Catholic by faith, was a dedicated employee for International Harvester’s and KAEC for ten years each. He served in the United States Navy (10 year veteran) and he was an avid fisherman, and gardener. He especially loved growing a vegetable garden, roses and sunflowers. He was a huge UofL fan and loved sharing his motto, “Gotta Be Tough!”

In addition to his parents, his sisters, Kathlene Beckman and Mary Grace Ballard preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 62 years, Patricia Riggs; children, Crystal Rerecich (Mark) and Terry Riggs (Connie); grandchildren, Michael Rerecich (Laura), Courtney Trask (Tanner), Austin Riggs, Isaac Riggs (Morgan), Brandon Moore (Katie), Brittney Moore  and Kaylee Moore; great-grandchildren, Carson, Remington, Wilson, Clara and Scarlett; sister, Martha Sue Shook; brothers, Jospeh Arden Riggs, Thomas Jerry Riggs, Joseph Stanley Riggs and Joseph Herman Riggs and a host of other dear family and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Friends and family may pay their respects on Monday from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Tuesday from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11am at the funeral home.
