Darlene Johnson, age 67, of Shepherdsville returned to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, August 22, 2026. She was born in Louisville on November 25, 1958, to the late John Thornton and Nora Karr Perkins.
A Christian by faith, Darlene was a dedicated member of Belmont Christian Church, where she found deep fellowship and took genuine joy in her church family. Her belief was not merely something she held, but something she lived—seen in her kindness, her presence, and her commitment to the people and community she loved.
Darlene cherished time with her family and made it a priority to be there for them. She was the heart of holidays and celebrations, hosting each gathering and creating the kind of welcome that brought everyone together. She also made time to attend all the grandkids’ ball games, showing her love through support and unwavering encouragement.
She is survived by her loving husband Joseph Johnson; fur-baby, Teddy; her stepdaughters, Benita Browner (Richard), Annette White (Terry); bonus son, Charlie Thornton (Crystal); a sister, Susie Shelton; a half-brother, Tommy Perkins; 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren along with a host of family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Junior “Honk” Perkins, 3 sisters and 1 brother.
Funeral services will take place at 10 am on Monday, August 31, 2026, in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (4895 N. Preston Hwy) with burial to follow and Brookland Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects on Sunday August 30, 2026, from 3 pm to 8 pm and on Monday from 9 am till time of service at 10 am.
