My Uncle Ricky was a wonderful uncle and always had time for us kids, if it were taking a walk, playing games, going to church to hear him sing, Easter Egg hunts, and taking trips with him and my parents and my brother. I Love him and will miss him very much.

I loved having Mr. Hester sub for me in my class.  I knew when I had to be away he would do an excellent job.  I always call him first to see if he could sub for me.  The students loved having him as their sub for the day. I never had to worry about my students.  When I returned to school, it was like I never even missed a day.  I could always depend on him.  He will be truly missed by the people and students who got to know him.  Rest in peace!!!!!

David had a kind heart. He would share his words of wisdom, flower bulbs, and travel tips with me often. He will be missed by many. Rest in Peace Friend.

He was such a kind man. I loved being around him. He brought joy to all.

Ricky was among the most intelligent people I have ever known. I always enjoyed any discussions we had about history, politics or pretty much anything else from his days as a singer to the genealogy of his family to the portrait of Martin Van Buren he had on his wall (of which he said I was one of only three people he ever asked who knew who was in that portrait :) ).   There were a few times he and I had talked at length. He possessed an incredible wealth of knowledge, had a love for antiquities, an appreciation for history and a good story to tell any time you spoke with him. I often referred to him as the family historian because of his impressive and seemingly endless array of facts and backgrounds on people and places. But, above all that, from all I knew of him he was a very kind and amiable man. I didn't know him for too many years, but I was glad to have known him for the amount of time that I did.

Mr. Hester was such a wonderful person. He was soft spoken never seem to meet a stranger. He will be missed by alot of people. Rest in Peace, you now have your "Angel Wings"

A good Uncle, a very affable man when speaking with you or a perfect stranger. I and my sister grew up around him, his interactions with our Mother and Father led to many a  adventure as kids. His stories told us fell on subjects from A-Z always ending in a good laugh, or a lesson learned.Ever so much a presence in our lives our parents asked him to be our guardian if anything happened to them. He didn't hesitate for a moment to take on the responsibility. To me he was purpose driven in his tasks, always a prize winning garden, or secrets to pioneer cooking ,be it his mothers homemade cornbread and biscuits, or a skillet of fried taters. Although he had no kids, we nieces and nephews were his to teach much like the students he instructed in the public schools. I can only imagine a class of kids facing his intellect not knowing they had already lost the race...makes me chuckle. He will be missed, but he left his foot print on this earth if only for a moment...

He was such a nice man. Very intelligent and had a great personality. I can remember going over to his house with my fiddle and playing him tunes. He was a great cook and loved antiques. I will never forget him. RIP Uncle Rick.

My great uncle was an amazing, talented and intelligent man. My grandfather passed away before I was born and my great uncle Ricky was always there for me. He was a good listener, very witty, kind hearted and humble. I will always remember the Easter egg hunts and weenie roasts at his place. I'll cherish the times when he tried to teach me to play the piano. I wasn't very good at it, but he always kept a smile on his face and offered words of encouragement. I will also never forget how he sent my cousin and I snipe hunting; he was a good jokester. He was always there until the end when my grandmother was sick and I've never forgotten that. I'll always treasure the Christmas that he cooked dinner for my family. He was very knowledgeable about our family tree. I loved hearing about our family history from him.  I will never forget him, he made an impact on my life and I was thankful for the time I had with him.
