It is with the heaviest of hearts and profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved sister, Denise Darlene Phelps, who went home to be with the Lord on August 30, 2026, at the age of 64. Denise was a beautiful soul who loved her family immeasurably. She had a heart that held so much love, and those who were blessed to know her will forever carry a piece of that love with them. Her unexpected departure has left an emptiness that words cannot truly describe. Denise found joy in the simple things in life. She loved spending time with her family, playing bingo, and pulling her favorite pull-tabs. She could find excitement in the little moments, and her laughter, personality, and presence brought something special wherever she was. Denise was preceded in death by her beloved parents, William Edward Phelps, Sr. and Ethel Rose Phelps; and her siblings, Jerry Phelps, Billy Phelps, and Carol Jean Alvey and beloved friend, Pat Michler. She leaves behind those who will forever cherish her memory: her brothers, Robert Phelps and Gary Phelps; sister, Dawn Gratton (Tony); nieces, Chloe Phelps and Kileigh Schmidt; nephew, Lincoln Schmidt; great-niece, Lylah Wray as well as a host of family and friends. Though our hearts ache because we cannot have her here with us, we are grateful for every memory, every laugh, every conversation, and every moment we were given with Denise. Her life may have ended unexpectedly, but the love she gave us never will. We will miss her more than words can say. We will miss her voice, her laughter, her stories, her little ways, and simply having her here. There will always be an empty place in our family that belongs only to Denise. Until we meet again, dear sister, know that you are deeply loved, incredibly cherished, and will never be forgotten. Funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 12:00 pm in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) with interment in Mt. Washington Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm and on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, from 9:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home.
