Donald "Don" Helton

Donald “Don” Helton, age 76 of Hillview, returned to his Heavenly Father on Friday, October 4, 2024. He was born on June 30, 1948, in Knox County, Kentucky to the late James and Georgia (Taylor) Helton. He was a member of Radiant Life Church of GOD. Don loved playing the piano and guitar and loved attending church. He and his wife, Ellie Mae, traveled every state, except Alaska and Hawaii, while he was a truck driver. He enjoyed singing with his wife and they would sometimes stop on the side of the road to enjoy the scenery and sing. In his earlier years, he enjoyed going to car and truck races. He was a jokester and had a wonderful sense of humor, but his true passion was his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Wombles and brother, Orville Gambrel.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 35 years, Ellie Mae Helton; daughters, Kim Saltkill (Bobby) and Sarah Medina (Nate); grandchildren, Makayla, Macie, Samantha, Sydnee and Corbin; great-grandson, Myles; sisters, Helen Baker, Joyce Moore and Geraldine Helton; step-daughter, Sherry Perry (Mike); step-grandchildren, James Foley and Chris Perry and a host of step great-grandchildren, family and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 5 pm in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) with cremation to follow. Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday, October 10, 2024, from 1 pm until the time of the service at the funeral home.
