Dorothy Jane Russ

Dorothy Jane (Wells) Russ, age 85, of Hillview returned to her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, with loving family by her side. Dorothy was born on May 9, 1939, to the late Robert and Mary Catherine (Bohr) Wells. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Dorothy attended St. Columba Grade School and graduated from Loretto High School in 1957. She was raised at 35th and Duncan along with her brothers, Bobby and Jimmy Wells. Dorothy spent 27 years with the Bullitt County School system in various positions, all at Maryville Elementary School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Dale Russ “Poppy”.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ricky Russ (Debbie), Robin Phelps (Tommy), Kevin Russ (Theresa) and Kim Whitlock (Ricky). She was also blessed with 10 grandchildren: Chris, Melissa, Tiffany, Devin, Lindsey, Cameron, Ryan, Josh, Matthew and Kyle. She was further blessed with 14 great-grandchildren; Dallas, Dean, Brantley, Caroline, Scarlett, Macy, Jebediah, Olivia, Hadley, Benjamin, Jude, Levi, Reese and Vincent and 1 great-great grandchild: Nova Rose; brothers, Bobby Wells (Elaine) and Jimmy Wells (Karen), as well as many nieces, nephews and family members who will miss her. She will also be missed greatly by her fur-baby, Gracie. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength and unwavering dedication to her family and friends.

The family will honor Dorothy's wishes of cremation. Memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 2 pm in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.). Friends and family may pay their respects on Saturday, August 10, 2024, from 10 am until the time of the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Crusade for Children in Dorothy’s name.
