

Mr. Elmer Burns, age 81, of Shepherdsville returned to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, September 22, 2019. Mr. Burns was born on September 16, 1938 in Washington County, Kentucky to the late Cecil Mink and Ella Mae (Logue) Burns. Mr. Burns was a Kentucky Colonel and a Korean War Veteran. He was retired from General Electric after 30 years of service. Among those that preceded him in death are his parents; grandson, Dylan Thomas Whitely; sister, Dorothy Lanham; and daughter in law, Lynne Burns.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 61 years, Betty Ann (McCarty) Burns; children, Stephen S. Burns, Datha Jean Whitely (Mitch) and Dennis D. Burns (Cindy); grandchildren, Stephen (Kristina), Jeremy and Lyndsay Burns, Austin Whitely (Sami), Carrie and Allyson Burns; great grandchildren, Jordan, Quentin, Jocelyn, Jolene and Skylar; siblings, Wanda Mae Clarkson, Lilly Taylor, and Sam and Billy Burns; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 12 pm on Thursday, September 26, 2019 in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) with interment Highland Memory Gardens. Friends may pay their respects on Wednesday from 1 pm until 8 pm and on Thursday from 9 am until the time of service at the funeral home.
