Gary Carroll, age 68, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and son passed away on August 12, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Taylor County, Kentucky, to Arvin and Geneva Carroll.
Gary was a man of deep faith who loved Jesus Christ with all his heart and soul. He taught his family the importance of God, family, honesty, and keeping your word. He believed that when you gave someone your word, you kept it. These were not simply lessons he taught—these were values he lived by daily.
In his younger years, Gary raised and trained beagle hounds to hunt rabbits. He bred and trained dogs and took great pride in his hounds. He loved rabbit hunting and fishing, especially the times he spent fishing with his son. Sometimes he didn't even need to be the one holding the gun; he simply just enjoyed sitting and listening to his hounds chase a rabbit. Those sounds and those moments brought him happiness.
Above all his hobbies and interests, Gary's greatest love was his family. To his children, Gary was their hero. Whenever they needed him, he was there. If his kids ever found themselves with a problem, Gary was the first person they would turn to.
As a father, Gary was dependable, protective, and always there when his family needed him the most. He was a loyal and loving husband. To his children he was caring, protective and a friend. He was also the best grandpa to his grandsons.
Gary was a man who spent his life loving God, loving his family, helping others, and keeping his word. His presence will be deeply missed, but the lessons he taught and the love he gave will live on through every person fortunate enough to have known him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy G. Carroll, his daughter Tammy Carroll Whitt, his father, Arvin Carroll and his sister, Yvonne Boone.
Gary leaves behind a family who will forever carry the lessons he taught them and the love he gave them. He is survived by his mother, Geneva Carroll; his son, Shaun Carroll (Caitlen); his son-in-law, Ronald Whitt; his two beloved grandsons, Jaxson Whitt and Othello; his nephew, Robert Boone (Tonya).
Funeral services will be at 10 am on Friday, August 21, 2026, in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home, (4895 N. Preston Hwy) with burial to follow at Brookland Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday from 3 pm to 8 pm and Friday from 9 am till time of service at 10 am.
Even though Gary’s body will rest at Brookland Cemetery, his heart and soul will remain with Jesus Christ.
