As a child I found Uncle Gerald stern and a little scary, but as I grew up that changed.  I enjoyed the teasing banter back and forth between us.  Even after Aunt Lucy passed, he would ask me if he could pinch an inch.  That was a running joke between Aunt Lucy and me.  He is loved and will be missed.  Love and prayers to Jackie and Jeff.

Jacquie... I was away in Georgia tonight when Martin sent me a text re: your dad. I am so sorry. Such great memories overflow... I've been keeping up with him through my dad. Your devotion and care for him -especially after your mom died was beautiful. Thank you for that example. I know the next few days will be hard. I hope you can find peace in his release from here and his reunion with your mom. You have our love and deepest sympathy. -wilson

My heart’s been heavy this last week with the knowledge that so many members of the  church where I grew up in Kentucky were sick with Covid and that two of the elderly had died. And tonight it has overflowed when I heard Gerald Massey has passed away. Through the years I rarely heard his name without his wife Lucy also being mentioned. It was like they were one person, “Gerald and Lucy”. When my Nana moved from the farm to be near us she moved into a house in Ruhl Acres right around the corner from the Massey’s. And they adopted her as their own. Nana and by extension all our family loved them for loving her and helping her all those years when she needed new friends. She thought they hung the moon. The faithfulness of Gerald Massey to his Lord was constantly and quietly always present when around him. His son Jeff was one of Wilson’s closest friends and Jacquie Massey has been my friend for a lifetime. Her dedication to her parents and their care truly played forward what she saw them do for others. My hope now is that in that prepared mansion of the Lord’s the Massey’s are once again just around the corner. “Won’t it be wonderful there?” Oh, yes. Indeed.

Jacquie, I’m not really good with right 
 words in times like these, I more of a show up a casserole and pie person but since it’s 300 miles and Covid is rampant I will try words.  I thought the world of your parents especially your mother, she took me in as a young newlywed and taught me so much about being a wife, mother, bookkeepers..... she was Tom Brown construction!  And your dad was so much younger than 92.  Even after living in Tennessee for over 30 years, it just didn’t seem right to visit Hebron lane and not sit behind Gerald and Lucy, it was our seat back in the day.  He would always say in a boisterous voice “hello patsy” 
There are no good words to say about a Covid death, I’m a nurse I know.  Families robbed of their goodbyes and holding their loved ones hand, mourning in our traditional ways it’s all changed.  My heart goes out to you and your family. 
I loved Gerald and Lucy,  they will forever hold a special place in our hearts. We can rest assured that Gerald (and Lucy) fought the good fight.

I’ll always remember Gerald’s smile and kindness. His love for God, his brethren, his sweet Lucy, his children and grandchildren was always evident. He was serious and thoughtful about God’s word. He knew it well and had great respect for it. But he was fun and liked to joke around too. He was a helper - I remember when my brother and I were small, if I fell asleep in church, he would carry me out to the car for mom, so she could carry my baby brother and all of our stuff. :) I always thought that was such a thoughtful thing to do for a young mom, bringing her little ones to church by herself. Sending our love to the Massey family, and prayers for you all to be comforted with the precious memories of a life well lived!

My current favorite Mr. Massey memory is how he or Lucy would buy something from me no matter whatever crazy fundraiser the schools where doing.  I think he looked forward to it.

I used to call Gerald when I was having problems  with my Bible lesson. He was always goad to help me. He also showed me the picture of him & Lucy on the motorcycle. They were real young then. I qull greatly miss him.

Jacquie, We are so sorry about your loss of Gerald.  We have always loved and admired him for his steadfastness in the faith.  You are richly blessed to have such a father!  He has also been a blessing in our lives.  We look forward to seeing him in the sweet by and by where the roses never fade.  Meanwhile, we pray God will comfort and strengthen you. Gerald Ray was my favorite uncle.  I will always remember his positive outlook on life, his great stories, and his sense of humor.  He was a wonderful example to me of a faithful Christian.  He was also an amazing husband, father, and grandfather.   You all are in my prayers.

There are certain people and families that God blesses us with in our lives. People who become more than friends because of what you get to do together. These special people provide our lives with beautiful texture and color. They provide a meaning to who we are. Your family, your Dad and Mom, and you all have given us so much for so long. Your Dad is a part of who I am. His kindness and concern was always felt whenever we talked. I will always carry him with me in memories both recent and old. Adams family sympathy for all the Massey clan. Wish we could be with you.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Mr. Massey was one of my all time favorite patients. I loved hearing his stories of the good old days and will always cherish a picture he brought me of him and Lucy with his motorcycle when they were young. He was a wonderful man. Jacquie, we were so sorry to hear about your dad. I tried to keep updated on you two through Shirley. We sure loved your dad. I can hear his laugh, as I sit here. We sat in front of you all for several years & then later, sat across from you two. He loved to talk about UK games with me, since he knew Sara & her husband would go to some of them. We remember lunches with you two at Culvers. We know you will miss him so much.
