Mr. James Robert Burnett, age 80, of Louisville, Kentucky, returned to his Heavenly Father on Friday, August 7, 2026, with his family by his side. James was born in Glasgow, Kentucky, on July 4, 1946, to the late Oscar and Mabel Burnett. In his early years he was a self-employed electrician, then began working for several companies as a Union Electrician, his last one being with Clariant. He was a loving and devoted husband, dad, and papa who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He loved a good game of golf and was a die-hard University of Louisville fan. James will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 siblings.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 49 years, Nancy Burnett, daughter Tammy Burnett, sons Jimmy Burnett, Chris Burnett (Olivia), 4 grandchildren J.J. Elkins, Jay Burnett, Kay Burnett, Lincoln Burnett, and baby boy Burnett who will arrive soon, daughter-in-law Stephanie Underwood, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.
A Visitation and Funeral Service will take place on Friday, August 14, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Schoppenhorst Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home (4895 N. Preston Highway at John Harper Freeway). With Burial to follow at Brookland Cemetery.
