Ray was born on November 12, 1957, in Russellville, Kentucky. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures and was happiest when he was outdoors. He loved warm weather, feeling the sunshine on his face, and spending time with a fishing pole in his hand. In the fall, he could often be found sitting quietly in a deer stand, enjoying the beauty and peace of the woods. A devoted fan of the Kentucky Wildcats, Ray rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite team. He was also a faithful member of Shelby Christian Church, where his faith was an important part of his life.
Ray spent over forty years as a Wholesale Parts Specialist, thirty-five of those years being at Bachman Chevrolet. Throughout the years he met many people and formed lifelong friendships. After retirement he enjoyed spending time at home with his wife by his side enjoying the small things.
Ray wasn't one to say a lot, but he didn't need to. He was the steady presence his family could always rely on-the oak that stood strong through every storm. His quite strength, kind heart, and unwavering devotion to those he loved were the foundation of his family. He found joy in simple moments and showed his love not through words, but through his actions every day.
He was preceded in death by his father, James D. Scarbrough.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife and best friend, Dwyana J. Scarbrough, whose love and companionship were among life's greatest blessings; his children, Derek Scarbrough, Daniel Scarbrough, Jessica Scarbrough, Kristopher Brown (Courtney), Kristina Tapio (John), Jamie Baker, James Baker (Danielle), Jacob Baker (Marianne), and Jackie Baker; his treasured grandchildren, Kelly, Miranda, Jaxon, Ava, Corbin, Lilliana, Trey, Kiera, William, Ilyas, Leslieanne, Jake, Emilia, and soon-to-arrive Ezra; his mother, Nancy Scarbrough; his sister, Vicki Moore (Bill); Tait Cox, whose friendship and presence in the family brought him joy; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Brookland Cemetery.
Friends and family may pay their respects on Monday, June 8, from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at noon.
