Mr. James “Jim” Winstead Woodring, age 72, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2026, with his family by his side. Jim was born on July 15, 1954, to the late Charles Newman and Louise (Winstead) Woodring. Known to many as “Woody,” he was a veteran of the Louisville Fire Department, retiring in 1994 after 20 years of service. He was a member of Little Flock Baptist Church, and a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Jim enjoyed spending time hunting, traveling, and fixing things.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 41 years, Jayne (Gies) Woodring; his parents; his sister, Judyth Egart Honadel and his brother, Michael Newman Woodring.
He is survived by his sons, Paul Woodring (Katie), Adam Woodring (Clara), and Jeremy Woodring (Sara); daughter, Jess Branham (Anthony); grandchildren, Charles, Ava, John, Harper, Everly and Franklin; his beloved cat Reese; sisters, Susan Vance (Rick) and Mardi Galvin (Cliff); in-laws, Carolyn Donato, Carl Gies (Kendra), Suellen Warner, Becky Gies and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other dear family and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 5, 2026, at 11:00 am in the chapel at Little Flock Baptist Church (5500 N. Preston Hwy., Shepherdsville, Kentucky 40165). Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Schoppenhorst, Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home (4895 N. Preston Hwy. Shepherdsville, Kentucky 40165) and again on Monday, October 5, 2026, from 10:00 am until the time of service at Little Flock Baptist Church. Burial to follow at Brookland Cemetery.
