

James L. Yocum Sr., age 85, of Shepherdsville, returned to his Heavenly Father on Monday, February 9, 2026. He was born Thursday, March 28, 1940, to the late Oscar and Virgina Yocum.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Patricia Elmore, Betty Ice, Oscar “Ed” Yocum, and grandson Joshua Yocum.
He was a man of many talents, a craftsman of small projects, truck driver, safety director, and delivery driver. Along with his many talents he was a loving caregiver to his wife Patricia. He enjoyed spending time with his family and thoroughly loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jim enjoyed being outdoors, camping, hunting, boating, traveling, “pool time” and his time on “The Farm”. When he could, he also liked to be the host of gatherings, entertaining his friends and family. He was an avid University of Louisville Fan. James was a bourbon connoisseur, and he made the best “Old Fashions”. If you ask his family about his love for bourbon, it will surely bring a smile and a story.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, Patricia A. Yocum; his loving children, James Yocum Jr. (Kathy), Gary Yocum (MaryAnn), Nancy Craven (Brad); his grandchildren, Aaron Yocum (Emily), Chelsea Bormann (Andrew), Shelby Humphrey (Isaac) and Matthew Craven (Alyssa); great-grandchildren, Everett, Henry, Nolan, Aiden, Xander, Iris and Holland; his siblings, Cheryl Huchingson, John Yocum (Linda), Walt Yocum (Roxanne); sister-in-law, Donna Yocum along with a host of family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 4 pm in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home, 4895 North Preston Hwy, in Shepherdsville with officiant Bill Weedman leading the service. Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday from 12 noon till the time of service at 4pm.
