Jesse Merrill Maurice Martin III

Jesse Merrill Maurice Martin, III, age 63, of Okolona, returned to his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, with loving family by his side. He was born on August 26, 1961, to Edna (Martin) Underwood and the late Jesse Martin, Jr. Jesse retired from J.B. Hunt Transport Services as a truck driver after 32 years of faithful service. He loved football, where he played for Western High School for 4 years. He also was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He was a “gentle giant” and when he met someone, they were a friend for life. Jesse was quick with a joke and loved by everyone who knew him. He was a giving man, donating regularly to an out of state church to help his fellow truck drivers. He would also help out his fellow truckers while on the road both financially and with prayers. Jesse’s giving heart and kindness will forever be remembered. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandbaby, Sam Payne and grandparents, Jesse and Gladys Martin and Hallie Penner.

Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 41 years, DeeDee Martin; son, Jesse Martin, IV; daughters, Amanda Payne (Kyle) and Tabitha Martin; grandchildren; Grayson, Emma and Charlee Payne; mother, Joyce Underwood (Lloyd); sister, Karen Murta (John Giblin); niece, Lindsey Winchester (Dan) and Bubba Murta; great-niece and great-nephew, Makenna Slucher and Brooks Winchester; fur babies, Angel and Tiger Lilly and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 12 pm in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) with interment in Gospel of the Kingdom Campground Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 1 pm until 8 pm and on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 9 am until the time of the service at the funeral home.
