

Mr. Jimmie Russell Monroe, age 81 of Louisville, Kentucky, returned to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, with his family by his side. Jimmie was born on June 13, 1944. In Glasgow, Kentucky, to the late Herbert Monroe and Pearl (Wilcox) Monroe. He retired after 34 plus years at the Corrugated Box Company where he was a press operator. He was a member of Hiawatha Missionary Baptist Church. Jimmie was a loving and devoted husband, dad, and Pops, to his family. He enjoyed spending time in Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mountains, fellowship with his church family, and making memories with those he loved most. He was the only person many could truly say that after he was saved, he never missed a service when the church doors were open. He taught the young people’s class, and there wasn’t a person who didn’t love him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his grandmother Bannie Monroe who raised him.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 61 years “Hon” Edna Monroe, daughter Pamela Lee Bishop (Kevin), granddaughter Bailey Weddington, and brother Gene Monroe (Sandy), along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other dear family and friends.
A Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 12:00 noon in the Chapel at (Schoppenhorst Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home 4895 N. Preston Highway at John Harper Freeway). Visitation will be held on Tuesday May 19, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again Wednesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12 noon. Burial to follow at Brookland Cemetery behind the funeral home.
