Joan P. Marcum

Mrs. Joan P. Marcum, age 82, of Louisville, returned to her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, December 31, 2024. Mrs. Marcum was born in New Jersey on May 17, 1942 to the late James B.  and Mildred B. McLaughlin. Joan was a member of Hebron Presbyterian Church. She was a trusted beautician of 50+ years and owner of Patricia’s Beauty Coach in Hillview, KY where she made all of us seeking her service feel special and beautiful. 

She loved to spend time bowling, knitting, square dancing and gardening. She enjoyed canning and freezing her bounty’s harvest with her husband, Jim. She enjoyed listening to gospel music and singing along, often quite loudly. She adored her two dogs, Betsy and Bambi. Joan was a dedicated, treasured and loved mother, sister, grandmother and friend. 

In addition to her parents, her beloved husband, James C. Marcum Sr.; her only son, Charles Ray “Buddy” Eldridge Jr.; sister, Beverly Ogburn (Bob Ogburn Sr.) and nephew, Bob Ogburn Jr. preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Bonnie Jo Eldridge Sweat (Billy Hornung); brother, James “Jim Mac” McLaughlin (Dyanne); niece, Deborah Ogburn (DaVinci); nephew, Matthew McLaughlin (Shauna); granddaughter, Cortnie Rarden; and a host of other dear family and friends.

Memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm on Saturday, January 11, 2025 in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd). Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday from 1:00 pm until the time of her service at 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Brookland Cemetery at a later date.
