He was a hard worker through and through, coming from a long line of bricklayers before eventually retiring as a truck driver. He was the kind of man who could fix just about anything himself, always saying, “If it’s already broken, you can’t break it.” And more often than not, he was right. He could take something apart and somehow get it back together again—just as long as there weren’t any snakes around. He had a natural way of building and figuring things out.
He was a reliable and devoted father, a truly good man. And as great a dad as he was, he was an even better “Pepaw.” He passed down not only his skills and work ethic, but also the steady way he showed up for his family every single day.
In addition to his parents, his beloved wife, Brenda Devers, his daughter, Connie Sage and his mother-in-law, Bernita Newman preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Eddie Kiefer (Lauren), Barry Kiefer (Joanne), Billy Kiefer (Heather), Donnita White (Howie), Tonya Peacock, Richie Devers and Robbie Devers; grandchildren, William, Tyler, Brendan, Jaiden, Cheyenne, Belle, Roy, Madison, Alexis, Thomas, Addison, Alyssa, Christopher and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Isaiah, Justin, Liam, Crystal, Presley, Braxton, Serenity, Nevaeh, Anthony, Kylie, Malakai and Kolson and a host of other dear family and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm on Monday, May 11, 2026 in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) with cremation to follow. Friends and family may pay their respects on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of service at 4:00 pm at the funeral home.
