John Dale "Poppy" Russ

John Dale “Poppy” Russ, 84, of Hillview returned to his heavenly father on Sunday, March 6, 2022.  Dale was born to Raymond Lee Sr. and Frances Russ on August 10, 1937 on a shanty boat on the Ohio River and was raised in the Portland area.  Dale served in many appointed and elected positions in Bullitt County and the City of Hillview.  Dale also served as Recording Secretary for the International Association of Machinists.  He was a proud member of the Kentucky Democratic Party.

Dale retired from International Harvester when it closed and then again from Trinity Towers.  He is predeceased by his parents and sisters, Doris Russ Powell and Ann Russ Nix. Also predeceased by his nieces Lisa Powell and Denise Renn, along with his nephew Steve.  Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Wells, his children, Ricky (Debbie), Robin Phelps (Tommy), Kevin (Theresa) and Kim Whitlock (Ricky), also, a brother, Raymond Lee Russ, Jr. who is residing in Florida.  Poppy was also blessed with 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, his fur baby Gracie, as well as many nieces, nephews and family members and friends who will miss him.

Dale chose cremation so to honor his wishes a memorial service will be held at 4:00pm on Saturday, March 12, 2022 in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd). Family and friends can pay their respects on Saturday from 12:00pm Noon until the time of service at 4:00pm.
