OBITUARY

Mr. Joseph Anthony Porter

December 17, 1955 – July 30, 2026
Obituary of Mr. Joseph Anthony Porter
IN THE CARE OF

Schoppenhorst Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home & Brookland Cemetery

Joseph Anthony Porter “Joe’, born in Louisville, Kentucky, raised in Brooks, and lived for the last three decades in Shepherdsville on the beloved land he proudly named “Porter Hill”, passed away peacefully in his home on July 30th, 2026.

Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and he spent 51 years married to the love of his life, a partnership built on loyalty, laughter, and shared dreams.

Joe had a big heart and a way of making everyone feel welcome, he truly never met a stranger. His warmth, curiosity, and easy conversation made him unforgettable to anyone lucky enough to cross his path.

Joe had a passion for collecting treasures, finding joy in the hunt and meaning in the stories behind each item he brought home. He also loved a late-night bonfire and cold beer with his close friends.

Professionally, Joe’s first career was carpentry, a skill he learned from his father, which he went on to spend a large portion of his life doing. One of his proudest accomplishments was constructing his wife’s workshop, a labor of love that stood as a testament to his skill, dedication, and devotion to her. He went on to work in property maintenance, through which he found travel companions and lifelong friendships.

Joe’s legacy lives on in the family he adored, the memories he created, and the hill he called home, a place filled with laughter, gatherings, and the treasures he collected along the way.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 51 years, Lana Porter; his children, Matthew Porter, and Amanda Montgomery; his grandchildren, Brianna Heinrich (Brandon), Taylor Porter, JC Montgomery, Zac Montgomery and Aiden Porter; great-grandchildren, Dawson, Lilah, Kingstyn; his siblings, Sandra Hagan, Rhonda Gribbins, and Toni Karrer along with a host of extended family and friends.

In keeping with Joe’s wishes the family has chosen cremation with no services and has entrusted Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home with Joe’s care.
