Born February 25, 1948, in Louisville, Mr. Horn spent the majority of his career in lithography, primarily with Cardinal Lithography, where he worked as a press operator and was known for his work ethic and steady ability to lead—whether or not leadership was the job title on paper. He often said, “Sometimes you need less ink and not more water,” a philosophy he carried well beyond the pressroom; in that same spirit, later in life he took on a new chapter in information technology, applying the same precision and problem-solving to a different set of tools.
A proud alumnus of Louisville Male High School, Mr. Horn was a Kentucky Colonel and a devoted craftsman. A perfectionist with tools and technique, he could rarely pass by something that needed attention without trying to make it right. He enjoyed golf, woodworking, and—particularly—talking University of Kentucky basketball.
Mr. Horn spent more than 30 years in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), where he found community and dedicated himself to helping others who were battling addiction.
He is survived by his beloved companion, Rita Thompson; his daughter, Joanne Marksbury (Tim) of Louisville; and his son, Larry W. Horn, Jr. (Emma) of Louisville. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kira Reis (Daniel) and her children Benjamin and Oliver; Rae Vineyard; Salena Marksbury (Kevin) and her children Elliott and Bryson; and Myles Horn and Ava Horn. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Horn.
No services or visitation will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to AA-related organizations.
Arrangements are entrusted to Schoppenhorst, Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home (Shepherdsville location).
